Grand Theft Auto VI — Everything We Know (Updated June 30, 2026)
Officially Confirmed Information
Development and Reveal
GTA VI is an action-adventure open-world game developed and published by Rockstar Games. Rockstar confirmed in February 2022 that the game was in development, and it was formally revealed in December 2023. Preliminary work started in 2014 after GTA V, while full production began in late 2018 following Red Dead Redemption 2.
Release Date
The game has had multiple postponements. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar announced a release date of May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, it was delayed again to allow more time for final polish. The current official launch date is November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Pre-Orders — Now Open
Official pre-orders went live globally on June 25, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Two editions are available:
- Standard Edition — $79.99: Includes the base game.
- Ultimate Edition — $99.99: Includes the base game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade with exclusive vehicles, weapons, shops, cosmetics, and more. The upgrade can also be purchased separately at any time.
Pre-Order Bonuses
All pre-orders or purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier classic car, Shore Court Garage, two Vice City-themed outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern inspired by Tommy Vercetti. Digital pre-orders also receive a free month of GTA+ (valid for new, lapsed, or existing subscribers through March 31, 2027).
Physical Media — No Disc
Rockstar has confirmed that physical retail copies will not include a game disc. Instead, boxed editions contain a download code inside. Physical copies will be available starting November 12, 2026, to allow for pre-loading ahead of launch day.
Pre-Load Date
Players who pre-order digitally can begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026, one week before the official launch date.
Story and Characters
The story follows Jason and Lucia, a criminal couple trying to survive after a robbery goes wrong. They are pulled into a larger criminal conspiracy across Leonida, forcing them to rely on each other to stay alive.
Map and Setting
GTA VI returns to Vice City, now part of the larger state of Leonida (Rockstar's version of Florida). Confirmed regions include:
- Vice City (Miami-inspired, Art Deco style)
- Leonida Keys (Florida Keys-inspired)
- Grassrivers (Everglades-inspired)
- Port Gellhorn (industrial and port area)
Culture and Satire
The game satirizes 2020s U.S. culture with social media parody, influencer culture, modern policing tactics, and internet references such as Florida Man.
Trailers and Records
The first trailer (December 4, 2023) broke records as the most viewed non-music video on YouTube in its first 12 hours. The second trailer (May 6, 2025) also reached massive view counts in its first 24 hours. A third trailer has not yet been officially announced, but industry projections point toward a window of late July to mid-August 2026.
PC and Platforms
There is still no official confirmation for a PC launch version. Take-Two has reiterated Rockstar's historical strategy of prioritizing consoles first, though a PC release is widely expected to follow at a later date.
Developer Unionization
In late June 2026, reports emerged that developers at Rockstar, represented by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB), formed the Rockstar Game Workers Union (RGWU) and are seeking voluntary recognition ahead of the game's November launch.
Upcoming — Key Dates
- Late July – Mid August 2026: Projected window for Trailer 3 (unconfirmed)
